Sculpting the chin

ANESTHESIA

General anesthesia

PAIN

There is no pain, only a slight numbness for a few days.

HOSPITALIZATION

The patient leaves the hospital the same day, without any external incision or bandage.

RETURN TO EVERYDAY ACTIVITIES

2-3 days before returning to work.

LASTING OF RESULTS

The results are permanent.

The chin plays an important role in the aesthetics of the face. At the same time, it affects the other features of the face and especially the nose. A relatively large nose shows its imperfections even more when the chin is relatively small. The improvement of the chin can be performed in two ways: with synthetic materials and with genioplasty (sliding genioplasty).

Chin surgery with synthetic materials (silicone-hydroxyapatite) is an easy operation that can be performed under local anesthesia. However, its indications are restricted, and it is usually performed in mild microgenia. However, it is accompanied by several disadvantages, such as:

  • Inflammation and rejection of the implant
  • Moving of the implant
  • Depression of the lower lip
  • Corrosion of bone and tooth roots
  • No correction of asymmetries
  • Can be discernible when the patient laughs

GENIOPLASTY

Modern techniques of craniofacial surgery have significantly contributed to the elimination of such problems, while improving the aesthetic result.

The osteotomy of the chin (genioplasty) is performed with a small intraoral incision under general anesthesia and moves the lower part of the chin (in the way a drawer opens), while stretching the neck muscles and without affecting the closure of the teeth. Fastening is done with special plates and screws of titanium osteosynthesis, which are permanent and will remain forever.

The technique can be used in any case of deformity of the chin (small, protruding, asymmetric, after implant removal), regardless of age. However, long-term specialization of the surgeon in craniofacial and maxillofacial surgery is required.

In summary, the advantages of this method are:

  • No foreign body is inserted
  • Absence of inflammation (because it is a vascular musculoskeletal flap)
  • Applies to any deformity of the beard
  • Stretches the neck muscles, improving the contour
  • The teeth are not affected, nor is there bone resorption
  • No movement (there is complete ossification after a few months)
