Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Blepharoplasty is performed to remove the excess skin and fat that causes the "bags" mainly in the lower eyelid. This procedure cannot correct the wrinkles around the eye: the so-called "crow's feet".

Are There Any Incisions After Blepharoplasty?
Yes. For the upper (eyelid) blepharoplasty, the incision must be made precisely in the natural creases of the upper eyelids, about 1cm above the eyelashes. For the lower (eyelid) blepharoplasty, the incision must be made exactly underneath the eyelashes. In some cases, where it’s not necessary to remove the skin on the lower eyelid, the incision is made internally in the conjunctiva.

What Blepharoplasty Techniques Are Available?
Upper (Eyelid) Blepharoplasty: in this procedure, we remove the excess skin from the upper eyelid as well as the excess fat that is usually present in the area towards the nose.
Lower (Eyelid) Blepharoplasty Surgery: in this procedure, we remove the excess fat that creates the "bags" as well as the excess skin from the lower eyelids.

What Type of Anesthesia is Used for a Blepharoplasty?
A blepharoplasty is performed under local anesthesia with sedation.

How Long Does Blepharoplasty Surgery Last?
The procedure normally takes 1 hour (for upper and lower eyelid)

Are There Sutures After a Blepharoplasty?
Yes. In the upper (eyelid) blepharoplasty, we use intradermal sutures; in the lower (eyelid) blepharoplasty, the sutures are external. All sutures are removed in six days.

How Long Will The Patient Need to Stay in the Hospital After Blepharoplasty?
1-2 hours (until the patient has fully recovered from the effects of the sedation)

Is Blepharoplasty a Painful Procedure?
No. Usually, the patient doesn’t need to take any pain medications but only an antibiotic eye ointment for the incisions. However, there is swelling and bruising that will subside in the first week after surgery.

Are There Scars After a Blepharoplasty?
The results of a blepharoplasty are permanent. Usually, it doesn’t need a reoperation in the future.

Will the Results of Blepharoplasty Change in Time?
Yes, but they are inconspicuous. In the upper eyelid, the scar is hidden inside the crease of the eyelid and in the lower eyelid the scar is hidden underneath the eyelashes.

Is Blepharoplasty Treated the Dark Circles Under Eyes?
No. However, it can be a slight improvement when the "bags" on the lower eyelid are removed.

When Will The Patient Be Able to Return to Work - Everyday Activities?
If the patient wants to go out he/she must wear a pair of sunglasses from the first day after the surgery. The sutures are removed in a week and the patient may go back to work and his/her everyday activities. It is recommended that patients do not wear contact lenses for the first 2-3 weeks after blepharoplasty surgery.
